Established in 1988, Dakota Hills was the first lodge to be endorsed by
ORVIS in the State of South Dakota, and the second lodge for endorsement in the United
States, meeting their stringent criteria. We're located in the "Banana Belt" of
South Dakota - notable for it's mild winters and temperate climate.

Dakota Hills is home to an enormous population of
wild birds -- we do not shoot any hens, as this is considered our nesting crop for the
next year.
A unique thing about Dakota Hills is the vast
variety of upland game, giving you the opportunity to bag seven (7) species, including
Chinese Ringneck Pheasant, Hungarian Partridge, Chukar Partridge, Sharptail Grouse (when
in season), Snipe, Dove, and Bobwhite Quail -- all in one day.
All of the shooting here is done over highly trained labs and German
shorthair pointers along with Tom Lauing himself and his professional guides, assuring you
a safe and enjoyable wingshooting experience of a lifetime.
At Dakota Hills Private Shooting Preserve we believe
in a "Pheasant Hunt" not a "pheasant shoot". We deliver all amenities
at no extra charge. At Dakota hills you can expect a quality hunt - not an itemized
bill.
Manager and operator, Tom Lauing, plants extensive acreage in milo, sudan grass and corn, intensely farmed and irrigated solely for the production of optimum habitat for the upland game.
Tom leaves these crops unharvested until late season, cutting strips that are easily hunted.
